In 1973, the University of Pittsburgh’s star running back Tony Dorsett was 2nd in the nation in rushing, becoming the first freshman in 29 years to be named as an All-American. Two years later, Dorsett’s 303 yard game vs. Notre Dame was the highlight of his junior year in which he finished 4th in the Heisman Trophy voting. As a senior in 1976, Tony Dorsett rushed for 1,948 yards and 21 rushing touchdowns, leading the Pitt Panthers to the national title. He was awarded the Heisman Trophy that year.
